November 24 is Small Business Saturday

Saturday, November 24, 2012, is Small Business Saturday, a day dedicated to supporting small businesses and all they do for their communities. Small Business Saturday comes the weekend after Thanksgiving, the day after Black Friday and before Cyber Monday.

The purpose of the event is to encourage individuals and organizations across the country to “Shop Small” at their favorite local stores and help fuel the economy on Saturday, November 24. Small Business Saturday is a day for everyone, from the business owners who create jobs to the customers who buy locally, to support small businesses that invigorate the economy and keep communities thriving.

The annual event began in 2010 when American Express founded Small Business Saturday to help small businesses get more exposure during one of the biggest shopping weekends of the year. Last year, over 100 million people came out to shop at independently-owned small businesses on the day. Now, in its third year, Small Business Saturday promises to be even bigger.

United States Small Business Administration (SBA) has announced its support for Small Business Saturday as a day to celebrate the local small businesses that create jobs, boost the economy and preserve neighborhoods around the country. Please visit Small Business Saturday page at the SBA website for more information and useful resources for businesses and consumers. You can also find participating local businesses in your area or learn about promoting your business this Saturday.
